Power BI Developer
SYSCOM's client is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain a reliable and effective Power BI reporting environment. This position will focus on SQL query development, student loan data validation, business intelligence reporting, dashboard development, and the migration of existing Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI. The developer will also be responsible for configuring Power BI within the Microsoft Power Platform environment, developing complex custom visualizations, implementing reporting security and accessibility controls, and providing technical training and knowledge transfer to business users.

Duration: 9 months, with possible extension
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Power BI Development & Reporting
- Design, configure, and maintain a stable, reliable, and effective Power BI Service environment for reporting.
- Develop and maintain dashboards for various business users.
- Create complex Power BI custom UI visualizations according to specifications.
- Migrate existing Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI.
- Develop and support ad hoc reporting capabilities.
- Configure and set up Power BI within the Microsoft Power Platform environment.
- Ensure all reports meet agency and performance requirements.
- Develop automation routines to export data to other formats, including Excel.
- Write and extract SQL queries to support reporting and data analysis.
- Perform data validation tasks to ensure data quality across multiple datasets, including student loan data from various sources.
- Conduct root cause analysis of student loan data issues and anomalies.
- Develop data refresh strategies using Azure SQL Server and other applicable data sources.
- Configure and establish best-practice security, accessibility, and access management controls within the reporting environment.
- Identify and remediate accessibility issues in Power BI reports and dashboards.
- Collaborate with developers to improve reporting functionality and establish best practices.
- Gather and document business requirements and identify new reporting features.
- Elicit business requirements when a Business Analyst is unavailable.
- Communicate and document business rules.
- Lead technical meetings with business users and stakeholders.
- Develop technical manuals and supporting documentation.
- Lead Power BI technical training, mentoring, and co-development sessions with business area employees.
- Provide user-level training on Power BI functionality and reporting tools.
- Deliver daily project status reports to end clients, tracking progress against project milestones.
- Perform knowledge transfer to business users and technical staff.
- 5+ years of advanced hands-on Power BI development experience.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards, reports, and complex custom visualizations.
- Experience writing SQL queries and performing data validation across multiple datasets.
- Experience with Power BI Service configuration, data refresh strategies, and integration with SQL-based data sources.
- Experience gathering business requirements and developing technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and business stakeholders.
- Strong presentation skills, including both formal and informal technical presentations.
- Experience performing robust student loan data validation, including forbearance data.
- Experience with Azure SQL Server and the Microsoft Power Platform environment.
- Experience migrating Tableau and Crystal Reports to Power BI.
- Experience implementing reporting security, accessibility, and access management controls.
- Experience conducting technical training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer for business users.
